I arrived in the airport eager to meet everyone in my intake. I was actually meeting a friend from home, but before she had arrived I had already made two new friends… it was that easy! We were greeted by the some of the Camp Thailand team who took us to our hotel. Now, I’m a seasoned globe trotter, but Bangkok is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. There is so much to see and life certainly is a different calibre over there…. and the traffic is CRAZY!!

After arriving at our hotel, we were given some much needed R&R time before our first organised camp activity that evening… a pool party! The pool party was definitely an interesting experience, I had my first street food, I ate a silk worm and I had a chance to bond with my new campmates.

The next day we were up early ready to leave on our Bangkok tour (which costs extra but is certainly worth it!). We walked down to the river to board our riverboat to travel through the canals of Bangkok… who knew! It was an amazing way to travel through the centre of Bangkok. There was so much to see and it provided a completely unique perspective of the city… and we avoided that crazy traffic!

Once we disembarked our riverboat, we visited Wat Pho, the temple of the Reclining Buddha. It is one of the largest temple complexes in the city and it is absolutely stunning! I was so interested to learn more about the Thai culture and religion is a huge part of that. One piece of advice I would give you is to pack clothes that will cover your shoulders and knees as it is extremely disrespectful to have exposed shoulders or skin above the knee. After our visit to the temple, I had my very first Thai meal in Thailand…Pad Thai.

Before Camp

When i first heard about Camp Thailand, i was very excited about the possibility of visiting a new country and being able to “find my feet” in Thailand without being on my own. However i was a little sceptical about booking my place on the program because i had never done anything like Camp Thailand before. I was scared that i was going alone and that i wouldn’t know anybody, i was worried that i might not pass the TEFL and i was apprehensive about the whole experience. However, as soon as i booked it, i knew i had made the right decision. I received a lot of help and support from the Salford (Manchester) based office; they were there from the very start to support me, give me advice and answer all of my many questions that i had. This put me at ease. (more…)

Lily Barrett, January 2017 intake, Camp B – Krasang, Buriram

I was on the January 2017 intake for Camp Thailand Camp B, which is titled The Real Thailand Experience. I was pretty apprehensive about the experience, as I had no idea what to expect, but I can honestly say, hand on heart say that it was by far the best experience of my life, and I met the most amazing people while I was there, and continue to keep in touch with them!

My Camp Thailand Experience- January 2016 Intake – Siobhan Green, Australia

Camp Thailand was probably the best way I could have started 2016. No doubt about it! Now, no program that is bringing in people from all over the world is going to be perfect, and we had our hiccups, but that only added to the experiences. Camp Thailand brought me some of the most amazing people, and we shared some of the best experiences, all of which I will never forget. (more…)

My Camp Thailand Experience

Chloe Adie – May 2016

From the moment I booked onto the Camp Thailand programme I knew this was going to be one of the best decisions I’ll have made. It was now just a 7-month wait until my adventure was to begin. From the moment I applied to the programme the staff that were based here in Britain were extremely helpful; from replying to all my silly questions in emails to talking through the extended tours and life you will experience at camp.
